The Wright State men's baseball team will kick off their 2025 spring season on the road, facing Longwood University in a highly anticipated matchup on Feb. 14. Last Season, the Raiders won their sixth consecutive Horizon League regular season title, but ultimately lost to NKU in the Horizon League Championship.
Home Turf Defeat
The Wright State baseball team ended their 2024 spring season with an overall 32-24 and a Horizon League 20-10 record. They finished their season with a win against rival Northern Kentucky, as well as their sixth consecutive Horizon League regular season title.
Finishing with the title last season brought the team into the Horizon League Championship, where they won their first game against Youngstown State, moving them forward to face Northern Kentucky once again. However, the Raiders did not come out on top during this tournament and were defeated on their home turf.
Alex Sogard is in his ninth overall season with the baseball team and starting his seventh season as head coach. Sogard started playing baseball at a young age, and he wanted to continue his passion through coaching to impact other young men's lives like his coaches did for him.
"We had a lot of success last season but bottom line, we did not show up when it mattered most in the tournament," Coach Sogard stated.

Moving forward
Coming into the 2025 spring season, the team is focusing on their pitching and defense. They are working to get back into their "Raidergang" style of baseball by playing elite defense as well as leading by a strong pitcher.
The team is setting goals for the season, starting off hot by winning 40 plus games and moving on to achieving their seventh consecutive Horizon League regular season. They finished the season with a spot in the HL regional championship and winning for the first time in Wright State University history.
Patrick Fultz is a junior infielder for WSU and will being going into his third season. Fultz chose to come to WSU due to their priorities of winning and developing their skills.
"We are hoping to improve in all facets of the game as a team," Fultz Said. "For me specifically, I have made it a goal to have more of a presence as a leader on our team."
Last season, the team had a veteran group, giving them the ability to know and understand their strengths and weaknesses. Moving into this season, the teams strengths are more widespread and versatile.
Garrett Peters is a redshirt senior, who transferred from Ohio State University and has been on WSU's team for three years now. He wanted the opportunity to pitch, and help the team work towards a championship win.
"The thing that brought me to WSU was the grittiness and discipline that the program had created from years past," Peters explained.
The team hopes to lean into those strengths to achieve success throughout the season, and play into each players advantages.
