CareSource is a very large healthcare company that sent representatives to Wright State University on March 19 to inform students of their internship and job opportunities get ready to graduate and enter the job market. While many healthcare companies come to WSU's campus, CareSource stands apart in many ways.
What is CareSource?

CareSource is one of the healthcare non-profit organizations across the country. What makes them stand out from the others is the personalized care that they provide to each member.
Amber Salyers is an HR employee for CareSource who shared the purpose of their company and how it is different from others.
“We are not in business for our shareholders, we’re in business for the people we’re helping. If members have specific needs, we can make sure they are met,” Salyers said.
CareSource was founded in 1989 by Pamela Morris. She continued to lead the company up until 7 years ago, when Erdhardt Preitauer took over as CEO. Since the company was started, they have gained over 2 million members.
Another thing that sets CareSource apart from other healthcare companies is its partnerships. CareSource partners with different brands and organizations across the country to help separate their resources to be more specific to the present need.
For example, starting next year, CareSource will partner with TriCare, a healthcare program of the United States Department of Defense Military Health System, to specifically support military families and veterans.
In addition to the company's purpose to help its members, another big part of CareSource is its volunteer opportunities. If a need is presented, like helping a food bank or cleaning parks, employees of CareSource can take work time to do these projects, while still being paid.
There are even more volunteer opportunities for interns, as CareSource has community impact projects as part of its internships.
Getting involved with CareSource
CareSource has partnered with WSU many times in the past, coming to campus to talk to students about employment. They have always tried to give students information about applying to get more recruits for their internships and open job opportunities.
Associate Director of External Relations and Events Julie Wielonski shared why they continue to come to campus and talk to students.
“Many CareSource employees have built strong relationships with the students here. They send representatives to explain what exactly CareSource is and to get their mission out there. Also, they walk students through the whole application process so they have the greatest chance of being hired, should they apply,” Wielonski said.
CareSource has open positions, both internships and paid roles, for students of all majors. With all the different areas within the company, anyone can apply.
One of the biggest draws for students is their internship program. They have 12-week internships over the summer where students can work with actual CareSource employees and get a feel for how their day to day would work.
Jacob Haseley started at CareSource as an intern. He has now been in a paid position in HR for three years and shared a little bit about the goal of the internship programs.
“We want you to enhance yourselves professionally. These internships look great on a resume, but also we want you to bond with your community,” Haseley said.
If you are graduating and looking for a job, or a current student looking to build your resume with internships and volunteer opportunities, be sure to watch for more campus events with CareSource to get more information about the recruitment process.
