Ballpark food that is changing the game

Baseball is known as America’s pastime. When you think of baseball, you think of home runs, great defensive plays, those special World Series moments, and the food. Common baseball foods are hot dogs, peanuts, and popcorn, but ball parks across the nation are putting an innovative twist on the classics.

On the hot-dog front, many ball parks supply variations that provide fans with many delicious options. The Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Park offers the Boomstick. This is a 24-inch hot dog topped with chili, cheese, grilled onions, and jalapeños. The Freddy Fender at the Houston Astros’ Minute Maid Park is a chorizo sausage wrapped in a corn tortilla and deep fried, then topped with tequila-braised onions, pico de gallo, cotija cheese, and cilantro sour cream.

Bacon has become a common addition, with a few bacon wrapped hot dogs around the nation. The Milwaukee Brewers’ Miller Park offers The Beast. This is a grilled bratwurst that is sliced in half and stuffed with a hot dog, then wrapped in bacon. It’s served in a pretzel roll, with sauerkraut, onions, and a side of chips. The D-Bat Dog at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks is an 18 inch corndog, stuffed with melted cheese and wrapped in six slices of bacon and deep fried and served over fries.

College ball parks around still offer the simple classics, but TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska offers fans a taste of some special creations. This is the home of the College World Series and the park offers food just as unique as MLB parks. NCAA.com staffers Joe Boozell and Austin Vaughn reviewed these creations. Vaughn took on the giant taquito. It “is actually two taquitos… I was only able to consume one — each over a foot long, laid over a bed of lettuce and topped with crisscrossing lines of chipotle sauce, sour cream and sprinkled pico de gallo. Inside the crunchy outer shell was a creamy mixture of shredded chicken, buffalo sauce and sour cream…I would still recommend having a friend or three offer to help you before ordering.” Boozell tested out the Big Pig. “The Big Pig is a burger that consists of coleslaw, pulled pork, American cheese, a regular hamburger patty and applewood smoked bacon. It was my favorite item of the day by a longshot, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone.”

No matter where you take in a game this baseball season, you will defiantly not go hungry thanks to these unique and interesting cuisine options.
