Bark Strong hockey game to take place Feb. 2

SPRINGFIELD, OHIO — On Feb. 2, the Wright State Hockey Team will face off against Butler University in their 3rd Annual Bark Strong Game.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the NTPRD Chiller. The Bark Strong Game is played annually to honor a family which has strong ties to the program. The Bark family has been part of the Wright State Hockey family for many years.

The father, Don Bark, served as the defensive assistant coach. The mother, Robin Bark, helped sell tickets and put together events such as this game. Their son, Derrick Bark, played for the team for several years and has been a great friend to several of the current players.

The game itself is played in memory of the youngest son, Brandon Bark. Brandon lost his life in a tragic car crash in 2016. While in high school, Brandon had often practiced with the team and developed a great relationship with many of the players.

Additionally, this will be the last career home game for the seniors. The seniors were among the players who knew Brandon Bark personally. They wanted their final game to be played in his remembrance. During the game, there will be many events to raise funds for the charity of the Bark family’s choice; the Bark family has chosen to donate to the Veteran’s Assistance Dog Program within 4 Paws for Ability.

This is a well-respected program who gives dogs to veterans in need of extra assistance. The Veteran’s Assistance Dog Program within 4 Paws for Ability means a lot to the Barks because Brandon was planning on enlisting in the military.

All money raised during the game will go to this program. Fundraising opportunities during the game include ticket sales, chuck a puck, 50/50 raffle, silent auction and much more.  The team is accepting donations, silent auction baskets and event sponsors at this time.

If anyone has any questions or inquiries about this great event, feel free to contact one of the team representatives. Team president, Scott Humes, may be contacted at Humes.4@wright.edu. Team co-president, Clayton D. Terrill, may be contacted at Terrill.22@wright.edu. Team vice-president, Tate Bowen, may be contacted at Bowen.49@wright.edu.
