Five Rivers MetroParks to present film at the Neon

Five Rivers MetroParks will present the film “Where the Yellowstone Goes” at the Neon to promote their Fly Fishing Progression.

“Where the Yellowstone Goes” will premiere at The Neon in downtown Dayton on April 16 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online and cost $10 with a $1 service charge. Tickets purchased at the door are $15. Ten to 15 percent of proceeds will go to Five Rivers MetroParks.

“Where the Yellowstone Goes” is a film by Hunter Weeks that exposes the natural beauty of Yellowstone. Over the span of 31 days, Hunter Weeks, Robert Hawkins, Shannon Ongaro and crew embark on a 550-mile long journey along the Yellowstone River, beginning in Gardiner, Montana and ending on the Missouri river in Fort Buford, North Dakota. The Yellowstone River is the longest undammed river in the lower 48. Robert Hawkins, who led the trip, is a fly fishing guide. Fly fishing is shown frequently during the film, and MetroParks hopes viewers will be inspired to take advantage of fly fishing on local waterways after seeing the film.

Yellowstone Poster“The most important aspect of this film is to realize that we have very special places like the Yellowstone River in this country, and we can find these in every state and we need to cherish them, and not forget about them,” director Hunter Weeks said.
Five Rivers MetroParks is an organization that works to preserve and conserve parks and waterways in the area so that the community may enjoy them to the fullest.

“The main focus is conserving all these lands for generations today and generations to come,” MetroParks Outdoor Recreation Event Specialist Lucy Siefken said. “We provide personal experiences that connect people to nature.”

MetroParks has over 15,000 acres of conserved land and 25 parks, including bike paths.

During this season, MetroParks will offer many programs to engage participants in fly fishing.  These programs are open to the public, and Five Rivers will give instructions and provide gear. Five Rivers offers an Introduction to Fly Fishing program, which is part in the classroom and part hands on training. Following the introductory course is Fly Fishing Basics, which takes place on the river in places instructors believe will produce a great population of fish to catch.
