“Wright State is like my second home away from home and I feel like personally and professionally I have grown up here,” said Dr. Gary Dickstein.

“I have given everything that I had to give and have no regrets about what I’ve been able to do here and make a difference in students’ lives. It will be the people I miss the most, absolutely.”

Dr. Dickstein is the Interim Vice Provost for Student Affairs and has been working at Wright State for 27 years. He has accepted a position with Dayton Public Schools.

His last day at Wright State is Oct. 17.

“The time that Dr. Dickstein has spent here and the amount of influence that he has had in shaping what Wright State is now is remarkable and he’s going to be a tremendous loss from the university. Of course, we wish him well in all of his future endeavors,” said Student Government Association (SGA) President Ivan Mallett.

Farewell Party on Wednesday

SGA will be hosting a farewell party on Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Pathfinder Lounge, Student Union.

They are anticipating around 200 students to make an appearance.

“During the past three years as the Interim Vice Provost for Student Affairs, he has overseen the transition and reorganization of several departments, implemented new programs and services, and has provided stable and consistent leadership for the Student Affairs staff,” said Provost Susan Edwards.

Dickstein is considered very present and available to students as a leader. He prides himself on making a difference in students’ lives.

“I love Wright State. I am super sad to leave. The last three years have been challenging but I hope, and it is my sincere wish, that things improve, that students have a great student experience while they’re here,” said Dickstein.

“We have some great staff and we have some great faculty who really care about students. That’s what I’m going to take away and remember from my experience here is all the relationships that I’ve had with other staff and faculty who I know who really care about students. That’s what I’m going to hold onto when I walk out the door.”

Dickstein has held a number of different positions at Wright State over the course of his time here.

Such as the Manager of the Village Housing Complex, Greek Life Coordinator, Manager of Campus Apartments, Interim Assistant Director of Student Conduct, Director of Community Standards and Student Conduct, and Vice President of Student Affairs.

Provost Edwards will name an Interim Vice Provost for Student Affairs until spring when the university will conduct a national search to find a permanent Vice Provost.
