Multiple student organizations at the Lake Campus offer personal and professional benefits to students looking to get involved.

Some organizations are still active, but student organization activity has declined due to the pandemic.

“I really think that because of COVID last year, a lot of these organizations went inactive and because of that they’ve lost their [leadership],” Tiffany Hamilton said.

Hamilton took on the role of student organization coordinator this fall.

“I think this year we’ll probably see some of our organizations pick back up just because there’s more students on campus,” Hamilton said.

Business and Graphic Professionals still active on campus

Business and Graphic Professionals was the only organization promoting their organization at the Laker Lawn Party on Sept. 1, 2021. This organization is open to business and graphic design majors and is under new leadership this year.

Organization President Makenna Luedeke and her team are in the process of making decisions for the organization’s activities for the 2021-2022 academic year.

“One of our events we’re going to do free professional headshots here at the Lake Campus for anyone that wants a headshot for their LinkedIn or social media, we’re going to hold that here,” Luedeke said. Dates for this event are not yet set.

Business and Graphic Professionals will also host the Graphic Gateway competition for local career-technical students in the graphic design field. Winners will be awarded a $250 book scholarship.

Psychology Club open to all majors

Lake Campus Psychology Club welcomes all students to participate but offers career and graduate school resources for psychology majors.

“We do a lot of fun events. Like every October, for instance, we organize a Halloween costume competition,” advisor Professor Michelle Smith said.

Smith encourages all psychology majors to get involved in order to take advantage of major-specific opportunities like guest speakers, such as former Lake Campus students currently in graduate school and admissions speakers from the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology.

Last year Psychology Club hosted guest speaker Jim Clemente, former FBI profiler who worked on the television show “Criminal Minds.”

“We really want to go above and beyond because the students are putting in so much effort, so we want to make sure that we did the same for them,” Smith said.

How to start your own campus organization

Anyone can start a new student organization as long as they are able to recruit officers and a faculty or staff advisor. All organizations must be approved by Tiffany Hamilton.

For more detailed information on how to set up a new organization or getting involved in a current one, see the Student Organizations page under Campus Life on the Lake Campus website.
