Local Issues Overview: Greene and Montgomery County

From bail requirements and voting regulations to tax levies, there are several issues on the Montgomery and Greene county ballots this midterm election. Here is a breakdown of all the issues. 

Montgomery County Issues

Issue 1

If passed this constitutional amendment would require courts to consider factors like public safety when setting bail amounts. Proposed by the Joint Resolution of the General Assembly, this amendment would apply to Section nine, Article one of the Ohio Constitution. Only a majority yes vote is necessary for the amendment to pass. 

If passed, the amendment will be effective immediately. This issue is also on the Greene County ballot.

Issue 2

Another constitutional amendment issue two would prohibit local governments from allowing non-electors to vote. Under this provision proposed by the Joint Resolution of the General Assembly, only a U.S. citizen who is 18 years old or older and who has resided in Ohio for at least 30 days, would be able to vote in state and local elections. Only a majority yes vote is necessary for the amendment to pass. This issue is also on the ballot in Greene county. 

Proposed Tax Levy (Renewal) Sinclair Community College District

This levy is a renewal of a tax benefit for the Sinclair Community College District. The money raised by the levy would benefit the expansion of job training, educational services, technology and health sciences. The first due would be in 2024. A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage.

Greene County Issues

Proposed Tax Levy (Renewal) Greene County 

This levy would fund the operations of the Mental Health Recovery Board of Clark, Green and Madison Counties’. The levy would start collecting funds in 2024. Only a majority affirmative vote is  necessary for passage.

Proposed Tax Levy (Additional) City of Beavercreek 

The City of Beavercreek is hoping to pass a new proposed tax levy of which the funds would contribute to the construction, and repair of local roads and bridges. Funds would be collected beginning in 2023.A majority affirmative vote is  necessary for passage

Proposed Tax Levy (Additional) City of Beavercreek 

An additional tax levy for the City of Beavercreek is one that would provide funding for the city police department. Including funds for building maintenance and officer salaries. A majority affirmative vote is needed for passage. 

Local Liquor Option Beavercreek –  Precinct 1 (Sunday  Sales) 

This ballot issues would enable businesses with D6 liquor permits to sell wine and mixed beverages on Sundays. A majority affirmative vote is  necessary for passage .
