Local

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, Jan. 2. Emergency medical personnel present at the game administered CPR and restored Hamlin’s heartbeat before transporting the player to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. 

The Buffalo Bills announced that the physicians at UCMC removed Hamlin’s breathing tube on Jan. 5. The safety continues to show other improvement, and the Bills announce updates through social media outlets. 

“He continues to progress remarkably in his recovery. His neurologic function remains intact and he has been able to talk to his family and care team,” a Jan. 6 tweet says.

After 15 rounds of voting, Kevin McCarthy began in the role of Speaker of the House on Jan. 7.

The Biden Administration honored the two-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack. 

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Dec. 2022 job report, the unemployment rate decreased by 3.5 percent. 

According to the National Park Service on Jan. 5, Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted, but the activity is confined within the park, that area of which is closed for the time being.

According to a White House press release, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken authorized the use of $2.85 billion in federal defense funds to provide assistance to Ukraine as the eastern european country continues to battle Russian forces.
