Online program allows fans to earn rewards for attending Wright State athletic events

Have a smart phone? Are you tired of paying $90 for a Wright State hoodie at the bookstore? Want free Wright State gear?

The WSU Athletic Department launched an online rewards program, RaiderUpRewards, which allows fans to show off their school pride and earn prizes.

“The website links up your social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter and FourSquare, and allows you to interact with our athletic pages to earn points,” Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions Mark Gazdik said.

In the coming weeks, a RaiderUpRewards profile can be linked to a photo-sharing site called CrowdCameo to upload pictures at WSU athletic events to earn points.

Points can be redeemed in the online store to purchase Nike WSU apparel, gift certificates to the bookstore, game-worn gear and autographed equipment from the head coach of your choice.

“In years past, our rewards system, Raider Pack, didn’t offer many options on what prizes you earned by coming to games,” Gazdik said. “But this system allows you to pick and choose what prizes you want to earn.”

Besides prizes, there are contests and drawings on the website which include a $500 gift certificate to the bookstore, a WSU neon sign and a VIP experience to a men’s basketball game.

“It’s been a very positive response so far. We’ve already had about 100 people sign up,” Gazdik said.

Those numbers are expected to grow once the men’s basketball season starts.
Gazdik stressed how important it was to include social media as a way to reach students.

“Social media is day-to-day life for students. We wanted to reward them for being great fans by using what they already use every day,” Gazdik said.

Don’t have Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare? No worries. You can earn points through one social media platform. Liking statuses or sharing pictures on WSU’s athletic page earns points as well as using the hashtag #RaiderUp on Twitter.

Anyone can sign up, but a WSU email is required to be signed up as a student.

A leader board is also featured on the website (raideruprewards.com) to see who the most active students and fans are in Raider Nation.

“We wanted to continue to interact with fans,” Gazdik said. “We thought it was something we could improve upon and we believe it’s starting to pay off now.”
