Policy changes for students to look out for next semester

RaiderConnect recently issued a campus-wide email, notifying students of upcoming policy changes that will be implemented starting during the summer 2018 semester.

Among other things, the academic refund period is to be shortened. In order to obtain a full tuition refund, students will now be required to withdraw from a course by Friday of the second week of classes for a full-term class, or by the Friday of the first week for A or B-term classes.

Any student wanting to withdraw from a course that is not full term or A/B term is advised to contact the course instructor or RaiderConnect for more information, according to the Revised Registration and Refund Process website.

Financial aid will also see policy updates. Disbursement, which is described by the website as “the process of your awarded financial aid being applied to your student account,” will now take place on the first day of the academic term.

Financial aid refunds, or “any excess financial aid that is distributed to the student upon the satisfactory completion of all requirements” will be distributed to students toward the end of the first week of classes.

Student course registrations will now be subject to cancellation if a student fails to submit payment by the given due date, enroll in a payment plan or have sufficient financial aid.

“If there is a shortfall between your tuition and fees and your financial aid award, you must pay the balance in full or enroll in the payment plan by the fee payment due date,” according to the website. “If payment is incomplete, student course registrations will be cancelled on the third business day after the first due date for each term.”

Students who receive third-party assistance will be required to submit an authorization form by the payment due date.

The registration deadline for summer classes is Apr. 15. The fall 2018 semester deadline is Aug. 15.

Late registration fees will now be assessed starting on the first business day after the first payment due date, both for fall and spring semesters. As for the summer term, late registration fees won’t be applied until the first day of summer classes.

The website lists two categories for late registration fees: a flat fee of $250, which will apply to students who register between the first fee payment due date and the course census date, and a $100 per credit hour fee that will apply to any course registrations that take place after the course census date.

The census dates by semester are listed on the Wright State Academic Calendar.

Students can also now enroll in an installment plan to pay tuition and fees through WINGS Express. The plan is divided into four separate payments. “The plan’s first payment consists of a $25 processing fee and 5 percent down payment toward the account balance. The remaining three payments have defined due dates and will each be equal to one-third of the outstanding account balance,” according to the website.

A $50 payment is applicable for each late installment.

A full list of updated policies and commonly asked questions is accessible on the Revised Registration and Refund Process website.
