Raiders Rolling

The Raiders (8-3) won their third straight match in the Holiday Inn Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 13 at the C.J. McClin Gymnasium. They defeated St. Francis (PA) in three straight sets for the second time in two days.

“It feels really good,” head coach Susan Clements said. “Friday we were not our best and we talked about being consistent and having a lot of energy.”

The Raiders did just that as they came out firing in the first set winning by a score of 25-15. They had six more kills than Saint Francis in the set.

The second set was a little more competitive as there were 10 ties and seven lead changes. WSU had six more kills in the set and went on to win 25-22 to take a two set lead in the match before winning the third set 25-20.

WSU had 14 more kills than their opponent and a .239 hitting percentage compared to just .094 for St. Francis.

“I’m really proud of the team,” junior Haley Garr said. “I’m proud of how we finished and how we came together and fought through the tough times.”

Sophomore Katie Klusman led the Raiders with 21 kills while sophomore Maddie Lohmeier paced the team with 40 assists. Sophomore Jessie Thornton (17) and senior Katie Glassmeyer (15) led the team in digs as they collected 70 in the match.

Wright State will be back in action next weekend as the travel to Charleston, SC for The Citadel Tournament. They will face North Florida, UNC Asheville and The Citadel.

“They’re excited,” Clements said. “They see their hard work paying off so they get more eager to get back in the gym and face another opponent.”
