Wright State University’s (WSU) Student Government Association (SGA) convened on Jan. 11 to discuss the COVID-19 situation update, open SGA positions and upcoming events.

COVID situation update

President Jonathan Ciero began by addressing the recent campus-wide email that outlined the COVID policies for campus. The following policies are unchanged from last semester: the mask mandate, social distancing and the mandatory vaccination status of campus employees.

Dean of Students Chris Taylor addressed the on-campus testing center and the limited supply of COVID tests that are available due to the shortage. A website is being created which will inform students and faculty of the test availability when WSU has received a shipment.

Director of Academic Affairs Krista Long questioned how the university planned to help students stay on track while also ensuring their safety. Taylor responded that the university is aware of the paradoxical issue for students to value their grades and their health.

“I am working with Student Advocacy and Wellness to work through individual situations as they arise,” Taylor said.

SGA currently has five open positions, and the beginning of the application period for the Student Trustee will begin soon. The current open positions in SGA are health, education and human services senator, residential senator, speaker of the House of Representatives, director of inclusive excellence and accessibility and the chief of staff.
