Softball bounces back against Morehead State

Wright State softball bounced back after their first loss in seven games with a 4-2 victory at the WSU Softball field in which sophomore Ashley Sharp collected her seventeenth complete game of the season on Tuesday, April 26.

The Raiders (32-18; Horizon 16-3) got straight to work in the bottom of the first inning while sophomore Honnah Susor singled to lead off the game and later scored on a error by the pitcher.

Susor collected another hit in the second inning as she drove in junior Ashton Salyers to increase the lead to two runs.

Sharp pitched four innings of shut-out softball until back-to-back singles led off the fifth inning before a bunt advanced the runners and a sacrifice-fly drove one run in.

Wright State quickly responded as Susor collected her third hit in as many plate appearances to start the bottom half of the fifth inning, stole second and then scored on a dropped fly ball in center field.  Libby Pfeffer drove in the Raiders final run as she reached on a fielder’s choice after laying a bunt down.

Sharp retired the first two batters in the seventh inning , then saw a pair of errors lead to runners on first and third with two outs.  A wild pitch scored a run and advanced a runner to second, but Sharp got the batter to fly out for her 17th victory of the season.

Wright State tops the Horizon League standings and will travel to UIC (27-14; 13-4) for a three game series with the second place Flames beginning on Friday, April 29 at 4 p.m.
