Several sports have been in action lately and their schedules have been picking up intensity as spring progresses.
Baseball faced Youngstown State, softball played Green Bay and both men’s and women’s tennis faced off against IUPUI.
Baseball wins one and loses one
The Wright State baseball team hosted Youngstown State March 29 and March 30 for conference games. The Raiders won the first 7-1 and lost the second 8-10. In the first game, the Raiders had 10 strikeouts, the second highest of the season for the pitching staff. The second game was a tough one for the Raiders, who fell behind in the score early on but were not able to claw their way back to the lead.
Softball defeats Green Bay
The softball team traveled to Green Bay and played three games on March 29 and 30. The Raiders lost the first game 5-1, coming up with seven hits but not being able to connect them to score the runs needed to win. The Raiders came out with bats swinging in game two, scoring 11 runs, winning the game 11-8. In game three, the Raiders battled less than ideal weather conditions and clinched their first Horizon League series of the season. The final score of game three was 7-2.
Men’s Tennis falls to IUPUI
Men’s Tennis hosted IUPUI Saturday, March 30, at South Regency Tennis & Fitness Center. The men fell to the opposing squad 0-7. The lone court win for the Raiders was Param Pun and Lorenzo Maccarini at first doubles by a score of 6-4. Fernando Nardelli had a close three-set match at second singles, losing 7-6, 3-6, 10-5.
Women’s Tennis remains undefeated in Horizon League
The women also hosted IUPUI on Saturday, March 30, for a conference match-up. The women were able to take home the win, winning 5-2. The Raiders captured the doubles point, winning all three matches. There were four big singles wins at the numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5 singles positions. Haily Morgan defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2. Luisa Pelayo was perfect, getting a 6-0, 6-0 win. Madison Riley remained dominant, winning 6-2, 6-1. Finally, Jillian Milano took home the win at fifth singles with scores of 6-1, 6-3.
