Wright State offers many unique classes from ballroom dance to tai chi.

With the spring semester approaching, students are beginning to schedule new classes. Often times, students have heavy workloads and intense lectures.

Here is a list of some fun and interesting classes that could be a much-needed break for students:

Archery – KNH 1000B

If you are a big fan of Katniss Everdeen and have always wanted to learn how to use a bow, then this is the class for you. In this class, you will learn the basics of archery and how to use a bow.

The class is offered in the Nutter Center on Tuesday/Thursday at 8:15-9:10 a.m. and is a half-semester course.

The first class is already filled up, so if you are interested, schedule asap before room runs out.

Ballroom dance – KNH 1140

This class could come in handy one day at your wedding, at a formal dance or could even prepare you for Dancing with the Stars.

Students taking this class will learn about the fundamentals of ballroom dances such as the waltz, tango, and quickstep.

At the same time, this course could also replace your evening workout. Ballroom dance is offered on Wednesday from 7:10-9 p.m. in the Nutter Center and there is still plenty of room to sign up for this one credit hour class.

Latin dance – KNH 1160

Similar to ballroom dance, this course will teach you different aspects of Latin dance such as the salsa and rumba.

This class is also held in the Nutter Center but is offered on Mondays from 7:10-9:30 p.m., so you could take both dance classes if you want to.

Fencing – KNH 1200

For those who have never heard of fencing, it is a type of recreational swordplay, and WSU offers courses in beginning and intermediate fencing.

The classes are offered in the Nutter Center but there are a variety of days and times.

There is still plenty of room for you and a group of friends to sign up for this one credit hour class to blow off some steam at the end of the day.

H2O zumba – KNH 1290

If you love water and you love dancing, then you should definitely try out H2O zumba.

This course will be a great way for students to take a midday break from their studies and have fun in the pool while getting exercise.

Course is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:45-1:40 p.m. and there is still plenty of room for students to join.

Judo – KNH 1340

In this course, students will learn the basics of judo – a form of martial arts that originated in Japan but is still practiced widely today.

Class, students’ physical fitness and mental toughness will be challenged as Judo is a very intense sport.

Tuesday-Thursday class, students will be taught techniques involving balance, power and movement to conquer their opponents.

Class meets from 3:45-4:40 p.m. in the Nutter Center.

Scuba and Skin: Open water – KNH 1500

This course is about as unique as it gets. A scuba diving class in Ohio.

For this two-credit hour class, students will be required to bring their own fins, mask, snorkel, swimsuit and towel. The class has a variety of meeting times for students to choose from and meets in the Medical Science building and the Student Union.

The course has a non-refundable fee once the term begins so students should sign up with the intent to hang on for the long haul.

Tai chi – KNH 1700

Tai chi is another unique class that Wright State has to offer.

It originated from China and is practiced for defense, health benefits and meditation.

Unlike judo, it is gentle, not strenuous, and has a positive impact on flexibility and muscle strength. The course would be a great way to start the day.

Courses are offered at 10:10-11:05 a.m. on either M/W or T/R at the Nutter Center.

Ceramics for non-majors – ART 2000

For those who would like to take a class with less physical activity, and enjoy art but do not major in it, this is a perfect class.

This course requires a bit more time as it is a three-credit hour class, but is designed for those who do not have a large background in art or artistic ability.

The class is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-3:30 p.m. and may include cross-media and interdisciplinary studies.
