The ghosts of the brothers

As the temperatures dropped and leaves began to change their colors, the Halloween spirit filled the Wright State University campus.

One day, two roommates decided to tell ghost stories in their dorm at The Woods. Sitting on the floor with the only light in the room coming from one of their phone’s flashlight, they told all the stories they could think of, each one hopefully scarier than the next. One roommate told the last story of the night:

“Legend has it that the Wright Brothers haunt campus and they can be heard walking down the hallways and knocking on doors in the dorms. Nobody knows why but they don’t sound happy.”

The girls went to sleep that night only a little scared from the stories and legends of the Wright Brothers. The next day was Saturday, and one of the roommates went home for the weekend while the other stayed in the dorm. It wasn’t until it got dark Saturday night that she remembered the story of the brothers and their ghostly haunt of WSU’s dorms.

Suddenly, a cold breeze swept across her and she noticed her window was open. Right as she was about to close it, the window slammed shut and locked itself into place. Stumbling back, she saw a figure walk across the sidewalk behind her dorm and heard footsteps in the hallway outside her door.

“It’s okay,” she thought, “it’s just other students getting home late.”

Just to check, she got up and looked through the peephole in the door.

Nothing.

The footsteps drew closer to her door and she heard the sound of someone dragging their fingernails across the wall. She held her breath, maybe it was just her roommate playing a trick on her after telling her the story last night.

She noticed she no longer heard anything. In fact, it was too silent. She continued to hold her breath. Maybe whatever or whoever it was left and decided to leave her alone.

Just then, something thudded against her door, causing her to scream and jump back. The banging continued, each time growing louder and louder. She was sure now that it was the ghost. She covered her ears and closed her eyes, willing the phantom to go away.

It wasn’t until she uncovered her hears that she heard a voice coming from the other side of the door. It was a voice she recognized. She slowly got up and looked through the peephole, only to see the girl from the dorm next door. She opened the door slowly and peeked her head out.

“Was that you?” she asked.

“I saw something out in the field and it scared me so bad I had to find someone.” She said with a shake in her voice. “It looked like a man with a bowler hat on.”
