What you missed in Raider sports: Basketball teams play in Florida

Men’s and Women’s basketball went to Florida the last week of November to take on the Gulf Coast Showcase and FAU Thanksgiving Tournament.

Here are the results in what you missed in Raider basketball last week:

Women’s Basketball: FAU Thanksgiving Tournament

In Boca Raton, Fla., the raiders took on Kansas and Loyola Maryland. G Angel Baker (15) was named to the FAU Thanksgiving All-Tournament Team.

The women’s team fell to Kansas 63-74. Game leaders included Baker with 23 points and G Michal Miller (24) with 16 points.

The team then beat Loyola Maryland 66-51. Game leaders included Baker with 23 points and five assists, and Miller with 12 points and four rebounds.

Men’s Basketball: Gulf Coast Showcase

In the Gulf Coast Showcase, the Raiders came in third of eight teams. F Bill Wampler (1) was named to the Gulf Coast Showcase All-Tournament team.

The first game took place at home on Nov. 20; the raiders beat Urbana 88-51. F Grant Basile (21) was named Player of the Game with career-highs of 19 points and six rebounds.

He was also named Horizon League Freshman of the Week that week.

The raiders then travelled to Estero, Fla., to take on Weber State, who they beat 72-57. Wampler was named Player of the Game with 27 points, four rebounds and three assists; he reached 1000 career points during the game.

Next up was La Salle. The score was close the entire game, but the raiders ended up losing 70-72. G Jaylon Hall (0) was named Player of the Game with 15 points and four rebounds.

Finally, the Raiders played the familiar Miami Redhawks for third place and beat them for the second time this season, 71-66.

Hall was again named Player of the Game with 17 points.
