Women's Soccer falls to Oakland

Fans gave the referees grief all game at Alumni Field on Saturday, Oct. 10 as the Raiders (4-6-1) fell 1-0 to Oakland.

“Soccer is probably one of the most unfair games there is,” head coach Pat Ferguson said.  “Sometimes you do just about everything right and you don’t win.”

The lone goal in the game was scored by Oakland forward Alice Palmer just three minutes and 19 seconds into the game after a critical call by the referee’s.

“I thought we thoroughly out played Oakland,” Ferguson said.  “I thought the call that led to the goal was a poor call and was a poor defensive error on our part.”

The Raiders fought back all game by outshooting Oakland 13-8 with two more shot on goals but could not find the back of the net.

Sophomore mid fielder Bryce Hueber led the Raiders with nine shot attempts; three on goal shots.

“Based on how the game was going, I thought we would score,” Ferguson said.  “We were getting balls into dangerous spots and players were getting in the box.”

Senior goal keeper Halle Pyle bounced back after the first goal fell through by grabbing all other attempts at the goal. She had three saves in the game.

The Raiders will be back in action at Northern Kentucky (8-3) on Wednesday, Oct.  10.  The game will begin at 7 p.m.
