With over 200 donations from 21 states, this year’s Wright Day to Give was a huge success for the Athletics Program at Wright State University (WSU).
Total amount raised
The total donations on Oct. 4 for the program passed $43,000, far outperforming numbers from years past.
For Brandon Hays, Associate Athletics Director of External Relations at WSU, the rising numbers of donations come from the efforts of coaches and student-athletes.
“What really resonates with donors, supporters, and alumni is our coaches and our student-athletes asking for their support,” Hays said.
Even though Wright Day to Give is over, donations are always open. More information on giving to the athletics program can be found here: https://wsuraiders.com/sports/giving
Where the money goes
The $43,000 raised on Oct. 4 will go to improving the experience of Athletics at WSU, as well as straight to student-athletes in the form of scholarships.
“Those dollars go to, from a macro level … equipment, travel, uniforms. And we have a scholarship fund here as well that dollars go to,” Hays said.
When donating to a specific program, that money doesn’t go to the Athletics Administration, but straight to that team’s head coach to use on whatever they see fit.
Using every penny
Part of the success of WSU athletics comes from using their donations wisely.
“At the same time, I think the fact that our teams continue to overachieve with what they have is why we’re receiving more donations than previous years,” Hays said. “We know they’re using it wisely, and we know that they’re excelling.”
No matter how much money is donated, all of it is used to improve WSU athletics.
“We really do use every penny, and I don’t care if it’s $5, or $5,000,” Hays said. “It all goes to good use, and our coaches are so good at using their dollars wisely.”
