WSU grad published a historical thriller book

Joshua Lisec is not only a suspense, mystery writer on history with a modern-day twist, but he is also a Wright State graduate. The young author shares his helpful experiences from Wright State and his inspiration behind his new series, “Max Meyers Adventure Series.”

Lisec grew up watching old war movies and television shows such as “Von Ryan’s Express,” “The Great Escape,” “Combat” and “Hogan’s Heroes.”

“The heroism of America’s greatest generation has stood out to me as long as I can remember, especially since my grandfather served in the Army Air Corps during World War II himself,” Lisec said. “I carry a photo of his Army Air Corps airplane in my wallet at all times.”

During his time at Wright State Lisec discovered “the books of two indescribably awesome guys: James Rollins and Dan Brown. I noticed how they wove ancient mysteries, historical locations and real-life conspiracies into blockbuster plots. After I read James Rollins’ novelization of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” I knew I wanted to write in the same vein, taking historical events and mysteries and spinning them in new ways through creative plots and characterization.”

Lisec said that his novel, “Phoenix Reich,” is a fast-paced thriller set against the backdrop of World War II mysteries and the reality of modern-day Nazi conspiracies. He said he knew he had the motivation and inspiration to come up with a story that he was highly educated on.

“With the courage of the Allies on my heart, it was a no-brainer to utilize World War II as the backdrop of a novel, a novel that I knew I would start…and finish,” Lisec said. “College has a way of putting things into perspective.”

For many essays, research papers and English classes may seem like a hassle, but Lisec later learned that “the writing-intensive classes at Wright State greatly helped me develop the research skills I’ve needed as a novelist.”

Readers can receive a discounted limited edition prequel to “The Phoenix Reich,” a short story called “The Compass,” available exclusively through Lisec’s publishing house at donnaink.org. The book will also be available at Amazon.com.

Lisec will be featured in the “Troy Daily News” and the “Friday Piqua Daily Call” for his book and has been rated a “destined bestseller” by “The National Writing Examiner.” Lisec is also the featured novelist of his publishing house, DonnaInk Publications, where, Lisec said, readers have been claiming their free copies of “The Compass” “like hot cakes.”
