The holidays are just around the corner, which means that Netflix is most likely releasing, or already has released, a bunch of Christmas movies for you to watch and enjoy. If you are a movie junkie and love to watch them in your spare time, here are a few movies to watch during winter break to get you in the holiday spirit:
LATEST: Bubble tea food truck coming to Dayton
"The Christmas Chronicles"
This film is about a brother and sister who, of course, don’t get along. When an accidental sabotage to Santa’s sleigh goes awry, the three must work together to save Christmas. This isn’t a new plot by any means but the fresh take on its playful comedy as well as Kurt Russell’s delivery makes it a great movie night with the family. If that doesn’t persuade you, fans of Russell won’t want to miss his charmingly entertaining take on Santa Claus (and a cute little surprise at the end.)
"The Princess Switch"
While this film isn’t really a Christmas movie, it still has the cozy holiday vibe. Transport yourself to the beautiful winter wonderland of Belgravia, where a baker, played by Vanessa Hudgens, travels to compete in a baking contest. Although some moments might come across as cheesy, and the acting a little cringe-worthy, this Hallmark-style movie gives a great boost of inspiration for stepping out of your comfort zone and seeing what the world has to offer. It may not be the best romantic holiday movie out there but it’s great to snuggle up on a cold, snowy day and imagine that you’re in Belgravia, trading places with a princess and falling in love with a prince. It’s the closest thing we have to teleportation, honestly.
"A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding"
If you watched the first film, “A Christmas Prince”, loved it and hoped for a sequel, here it is. Quirky and sometimes awkward Amber is back; and this time, she’s planning a wedding. There is nothing more romantic than watching someone fall in love with Prince Charming. Add in the drama of how difficult it would probably be to fall in love with a prince, and you’ve got gold. Honestly, apart from the fact that these movies are adorable, watch it just to see the planning of a royal wedding.
POP CULTURE: Weekly Horoscopes
"The Holiday Calendar"
This inspirational story brings to life the power of the holidays and the magic of Christmas wishes. With a notable cast such as Kat Graham from “The Vampire Diaries” and Ron Cephas Jones from “This is Us”, viewers are bound to enjoy this heartfelt and enchanting film about someone simply trying to find their way in life. If only we all had magical calendars.
