Fine and Performing Arts Students show their talent at ARTSGALA 2012

The 13th annual ARTSGALA brings the fine and performing arts together for one night of fun and entertainment. This event is sponsored by Morris Home Furnishings, the Dayton Daily News, WHIO TV, THINK TV, Chally Group Worldwide and Gloria & Don Graber.

“All of the fine and performing arts will have a role,” said Jennie Buckwalter, Assistant Director of Development for COLA.

The night will be overflowing with the arts. There will be excerpts from Hairspray, students painting and sculpting, performances from the Wind Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra with dance accompaniment, student films, a wine tasting, a silent auction with over 100 items to bid on, a sports lounge with a complimentary cigars and five dining rooms each with different food and entertainment. The rooms will have either vocal, piano, Elton John, Best of Broadway or an Art Gallery theme. The newly renovated Concert Hall will be unveiled as well.

“It leaves you wanting more. It’s not an event where you sit down and are stationary for the night. It’s very high energy,” said Buckwalter.

In the past there have been around 550 attendants, which helped raise over 1.3 million dollars in scholarship money.

Wright State’s arts programs have received a lot of attention recently. According to Buckwalter, the Governor of Ohio recognized the fine and performing arts programs as a Center of Excellence this past fall. Academy Award winner Tom Hanks created a video which fully endorsed Wright State’s fine and performing arts programs.

This event not only provides scholarships to fine and performing arts students, but it is also something students can put on their resume. It also shows the students that the community supports them.

“It brings great awareness about our arts programs to the community. It is very unique for the arts to collaborate like this,” said Buckwalter.

ARTSGALA is black tie optional. It will take place in the Creative Arts Center on March 31 from 6:30pm to midnight. Tickets are $175 each and partially go toward scholarships for students. One hundred dollars from the ticket is tax deductible. Tickets may be purchased at www.wright.edu/artsgala.

“[Attendants should expect] an arts filled evening. They will have a smorgasbord of art, music, theater and students full of energy. It is Fun, Fun, Fun and all for a good cause,” said Buckwalter.
