Firefighters respond to car fire in front of Student Union

The scent of burning rubber filled the hallways of Hamilton Hall and the Student Union today, causing a flock of students to rush outside. Walking around the corner to Lot 3, the students saw a car in flames.

The car, a Nissan Ultima owned by WSU freshmen Darien Stevenson, had been parked in 30 minute parking right outside of the Student Union.

The police received a call at 5:04 p.m. from a student stating that Stevenson’s car was smoking, according to Officer Eric Monroe. Shortly after police arriving on the scene, the car caught on fire.
As students rushed out to see what was going on, firefighters from the Fairborn Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire.

“It was driving just fine on our way here,” said freshmen Dorrin Baffoe.

Baffoe, a friend of Stevenson’s, said that they had parked in 30 minute parking to grab a bite to eat and to run into Hamilton Hall before leaving to go to the step show.

Stevenson and friends were able to pull their belongings out of the car before leaving the scene.
