Movie Review: Christmas Inheritance

“Christmas Inheritance” is an original Netflix movie, falling under the categories of romance and drama. The movie follows a wealthy heiress named Ellen Langford, portrayed by Eliza Taylor, who ventures to a small town on the behalf of her father to deliver a Christmas favor to a relative. On this trip, she learns what the holiday is truly about.

Langford works for her father’s company and is engaged to Gray Pittman, portrayed by Michael Xavier, where she attends a holiday gala which soon ends in disaster due to her actions landing in the media’s eye. Due to the negative press which now surrounds the company, Ellen’s father–Jim Langford, portrayed by Neil Crone– comes up with a deal. She must venture to a town named Snow Falls to deliver a Christmas card to his old business partner and to show responsibility and understand what it means to lead before she can inherit the company.

Eager to prove herself to her father, and naïve about life outside of New York, Ellen winds up in Snow Fall’s inn which is run by her father’s friend Zeke, portrayed by Anthony Sherwood, and discovers he is gone for the season. With this, she meets Jake Collins who works at the inn, portrayed by Jake Lacy, and guide her in the way of small town life until she can complete her task.

Throughout the course of the movie, Langford learns the ins and outs of Snow Falls and begins a process of understanding the holiday, love, what her father wanted her to learn, and even herself.

The movie is slow during some scenes, the romance somewhat hurried, and lacks diversity, and with some of the diversity it does has, the characterization falls flat and may come across as problematic. “Christmas Inheritance” has its’ problems, but the movie works well for the holiday and any time of the year.
