Solar panels catch fire at Beavercreek Walmart

Smoke and flames were reported at the Beavercreek Walmart on Wednesday afternoon when solar panels on top of the building caught fire.

An alert was issued at 4:04 p.m. Employees and customers evacuated the building while firefighters responded. Firefighters from the Fairborn, Beaverceek, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene.

It took firefighters roughly 15 minutes to extinguish the flames. By 4:38 there was only smoke but no flames, according to the Xenia Daily Gazette.

Firefighters have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

WTDN reported that the fire was contained to the rooftop, where the solar panels were located, according to the Deputy Chief of the Beavercreek Fire Department.

Beavercreek Fire Department officials said that crews from Vectren and Dayton Power & Light will check gas lines and electric wires, respectively, according to the Dayton Daily News.
