The Raiders’ women’s bowling teams continued their success from last season with a second strong showing in as many competitions Saturday at the American Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference #1.
Head coach Jeff Fleck said the varsity women’s team finished second in its division, and the JV women’s team placed first.
The JV squad also led the way on the men’s side, with both teams finishing second and seventh in its division, while the varsity team placed second.
WSU’s next competition is scheduled for this weekend in Wauwatosa, WI.
Club Football: WSU drops defensive struggle to Thomas More
The Wright State club football team lost its second official game of the season Sunday to Division III Thomas More College, 10-7, after the Raiders committed a game-ending turnover with less than two minutes remaining.
Free safety Michael Skipper forced a fumble with 1:30 left, but WSU gave the ball right back to the Saints on the ensuing play.
Running back Brian McElroy scored the Raiders only touchdown and strong safety Roy Ray recorded an interception.
The Raiders will return home on Saturday against Southern Illinois at 11 a.m.
Volleyball: Raiders losing streak continues in Wisconsin
Officially, it has been 10 days sent since Wright State has won a set against its opponents.
The Raiders(0-2, 6-13) lost in straight sets to Green Bay and Milwaukee, Friday and Saturday, starting conference play 0-2.
Since sweeping Chicago State in straight sets on Sept. 18, WSU has lost five-consecutive matches and has failed to win a single set along the way.
The Raiders first home match against a Horizon League opponent will happen Friday against Cleveland State. The match will be the second annual Block Blood Cancers match, which will raise funds and awareness for Leukemia and Lymphoma cancers, according to wsuraiders.com.
Swimming and Diving: Raiders start fast in weekend meet
The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams collected four wins against Xavier, Butler and Saint Louis Sunday in a four-team meet at Fishers High School near Indianapolis.
The men’s team topped Xavier (145-88) and Saint Louis (158-79), while the women’s team also defeated Xavier (108-102) and Butler (141-69), but fell to Saint Louis 113.5-99.5.
The four wins were the first of head coach Kyle Oaks’ career at Wright State.
Women’s Tennis: Verstrepen victorious at Raider Shootout
Freshman Linsey Verstrepen was crowned Flight A Singles Champion after being awarded a default win over Northern Kentucky’s Maria Voscekova in the finals.
The men’s and women’s teams will be in action at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Memphis, TN from Oct. 11-15.
