The Wright State club football squad is making the most of a cancelled game. Instead of playing an originally scheduled game against Alabama, or a scrimmage against the WSU Club Rugby squad, the football team will now play an exhibition game against the Columbus War Eagles, a semi-pro team.
The game will be held at Mulhollan Field at the Rinzler Student Athletic Complex at 3 p.m..
Men’s Basketball
Wright State men’s basketball coach Billy Donlon recently announced the addition of Daniel Meyer, a 6-foot-9 forward from Central Catholic High School in Billings, Mont. for the 2013-14 season.
Meyer’s spot opened when Texas guard Ryan Bowie decided to not join the team this fall.
Meyer averaged a double-double throughout the season scoring 20.2 per contest while grabbing 13 rebounds per game.
“Daniel is a young man who competes and plays with a physicality that we emphasize,” Donlon said in a statement. “His best years are ahead of him as he gains weight and works on his skills. We are excited to have him join the Raider family.”
Club Hockey
The WSU club hockey team will play 12 home games at Kettering Recreational Center in 2013. The Raiders’ home opponents include ACHA Division II Southeast Region runner-up Miami (OH) on Sept. 27, Dayton on Oct. 4 and Jan. 24 and 2012 Southeast Region leader Toledo on Jan. 18. All home games begin at 10:10 p.m., with the exception of the opener against Bowling Green State on Sept. 21 at 5:10 p.m., and the finale against IUP at 3:10 p.m.
Tryouts for the team will be held tonight at 8 p.m. and tomorrow night at 9 p.m. at South Metro Ice Arena on Success Lane in Centerville.
The tryout cost is $40 per player for one or both skates, according to the team’s website.
Club Bowling
Tryouts for the Wright State club bowling teams will be held tonight and tomorrow night at 9 p.m. at Poelking Woodman Lanes in Kettering. The WSU women’s bowling team finished third at the Intercollegiate Team Championships on April 20. The Raiders have made four trips in the past years to the ITC.
Head coach Jeff Fleck notes that the women’s team lost two seniors, but will add four or five freshmen to an already accomplished squad.
“I like the balance,” Fleck said. “We should be able to contend.”
Fleck said the men’s team will “have to reload” after losing several of its bowlers.
