Women's track and field kicks off their season

This month marked the start of the season for the women’s track and field team. The women competed at the Marshall Women’s Classic in Huntington, WV. This invitational included teams from Marshall, Duquesne, James Madison, Radford and Morehead State.

“The first meet went well. It was a typical first meet, working out some kinks after a long competitive layoff. Some standouts were Maria Heckman winning the pole vault, Iman Salhieh in the 60 meters, and a strong showing from our 400 meter unit of Sophia Angelopoulos, Brooklyn Mikesell, Jennifer Ramsey, and Kennedy Rumer,” coach Rick Williamson said.

The team finished fifth out of the six teams there, however wins aren’t the basis of this teams drive.

“Goals for the season always revolve around each individual athlete improving over the last season. If we can accomplish that, then the team results will be positive,” Williamson said. This allows for the development of each individual, which will enhance the overall team.

Looking forward to future meets, Williamson mentioned how the “one goal is to continue to come together as a team, support one another and enjoy the experience.”

The team looks healthy and overall prepared for the season ahead, according to Williamson.
