Wright State thefts continue

The recent trend of minor property crimes around campus continues with a series of thefts in and around the Student Union.

Campus police are currently investigating various reports of personal items being taken after they were left unattended around the Student Union. These thefts occurred between 9 a.m and 9 p.m. over several different days, according to the Wright State Police Department.

Each of the crimes appear to be opportunity thefts, said WSUPD Sergeant Patrick Ammon. Opportunity thefts are typically isolated incidences in which a thief finds personal property with no one around to watch it.

“People should try to not leave property unattended for any period of time,” Ammon said. “They should call police dispatch if they see anyone or anything that appears suspicious to them.”

A majority of thefts that occur in the Student Union gym facilities result from items either left unattended or placed in lockers without locks, according to Fitness Center student employee Tyler Sylvester.

Ammon confirmed that unlocked lockers were a major cause of opportunity thefts.

WSUPD does not yet have any suspect information for these crimes. They urge anyone with information about these incidents to call 937-775-2111.
