Don't think about it; just get involved

Don’t wish for a Time-Turner, a modified DeLorean or a magic phone booth, and don’t go on an adventure with two guys named Bill and Ted, no matter how charmingly naïve they may seem.

Why not? I love dinosaurs. I want to dance in the 1920s. I want to be part of history, and I most certainly would love to go back and stop myself from waxing my own dark, unruly eyebrows that time in middle school.

But this focus on the “what could have been” mentality means our eyes and minds are turned away from the fantastic sights and happenings of the now. What good is a moment in time, even if you could go back to it, if you never really felt it the first time?

I say this not to depress you, nor to make you “YOLO” your way to an early grave. I say this in hope that you strike a balance. I hope you never wish to go back in time. I hope you can reflect fondly on your life and more specifically, that your time at Wright State University was spent having fun, being involved and learning all that your still-malleable mind can absorb.

I want to become more involved. I want to be able to say I truly knew WSU, and because of it, I have gained friendships, perspective, knowledge and invaluable life experience. I want to let go of what’s not important and I want to white-knuckle this time in my life.  As we all know, it goes much faster than we think. Join me, won’t you?

Who knows, maybe we’ll meet a guy who looks suspiciously like Keanu Reeves. I bet I could fix his eyebrows.
