How to keep your New Year's resolutions

Every year there are dozens of articles and posts about how to keep with your New Year’s resolutions, though they always seem to fail.

Whether it’s to get better grades, become more confident or lose a few pounds, the notion of a resolution seems too daunting to keep with every day. Perhaps choosing one of the same few resolutions each year encourages failure and that mixing it up a bit could be the ticket to sticking with it:

  1. Make a less/more list:

Write out a list of all the things you want to cut out of your life and then the things you’d like to add. Some examples include trying to listen better, eat more vegetables or be more understanding. On the flipside, maybe try to talk less, cut out soda and be less doubtful of yourself.

  1. Day-by-day jar:

Decorate a mason or latch jar and put a pad of paper next to it. Every day something interesting happens, write it down with either the date, the month or at least the season. This could encourage constant small goals as the year goes and then allows you to remember the last year when creating new years’ 2017 jar.

  1. Commit to organization:

As there are many resolutions to choose from, choosing to be more organized for the next year can help with each of them. Many times, failure to meet the weight loss resolution is usually due to over-scheduling of other activities. Vow to be more structured over the next year and make that trip to Office Depot!

  1. Prepare for your chosen resolution:

So after all this you still just want to lose (or gain) a few pounds – that’s awesome! Decide on how much you want to lose and what diet and exercise you want to implement; an extra stress on and as it is important to have both. Do your research and prepare for a different kind of shopping trip. This will help gear you towards the weight you are aiming to achieve.
