Raider Nights in the City, developed by Student Government Association (SGA) President Jonathan Ciero, gives students the opportunity to explore what Dayton and surrounding areas have to offer.

What is Raider Nights in the City?

Raider Nights in the City is a series of off-campus excursions for Wright State University (WSU) students that are interested in socializing and exploring Ohio.

Ciero founded this group because he recognized that he had not explored much of Dayton or other local towns. Additionally, Ciero hopes to increase campus engagement and involvement for students.

“For each event that we are doing, there are 10 or more events happening just on campus alone that students can also get involved in. Being involved with a student organization is an amazing experience and I hope we can inspire more students to join,” Ciero said.

With the funding Ciero received, participating students will have access to premier experiences for a minimal cost. The first two events are a Dayton Dragons game on Sept. 3 and a Cincinnati Reds game on Sept. 24. As of Aug. 16, these are the only two events planned for the fall semester.

There will be approximately fifty spots available for each event. Interested students can fill out an inquiry form on Raider Nights in the City’s Engage page or reach out to Ciero for additional information.

For University Writing Center coach Megan Henry, finding time to engage on campus can be difficult when dealing with classes, duties at the writing center and a full-time job. However, the concept of Raider Nights in the City may open the door for further involvement.

“I love baseball, so I would definitely attend a Reds game if I can,” Henry said.

Member of WSU’s Habitat for Humanity Emily Malek explained that she often has trouble finding out about events on campus, which has been detrimental to her engagement and participation at WSU.

“On Wings, events like this could be posted so that we [students] can see them whenever we login. I check Wings every day, but if events are announced in other places I am not likely to see them,” Malek said.
