Review: “Frozen 2”

Believe it or not, it’s been six years since the release of “Frozen” and now “Frozen 2” is playing in theaters just in time for all kinds of Anna, Elsa and Olaf holiday presents.

I enjoyed “Frozen,” but I enjoyed “Frozen 2” even more. The animation and visuals were beautiful and impressive, as expected.

The soundtrack for this movie really impressed me.

Kristen Bell (Anna) gave a powerful and emotional performance of “The Next Right Thing,” which makes for a pretty good anthem when things get tough.

Idina Menzel (Elsa) did it once again with her incredible vocals in “Into the Unknown.” A personal favorite of mine is the very cute and very sweet song performed by the cast, “Some Things Never Change.”

The plot is focused on the origin of Elsa’s powers and the pasts of Arendelle, the tribe of Northuldra, and Anna and Elsa’s parents. I found this to be an interesting break away from how the plots of sequels typically play out.

I felt that all characters had even more character development and the dynamics were much better established in “Frozen 2.”

Elsa showed much more ambition and recklessness than previously shown in the first movie. Christoff expressed raw emotion and was allowed space to be vulnerable and in-tune with his emotions. Anna, in contrast to her character in the first movie and to her sister in this movie, grew into a much more responsible and forward-thinking individual.

In my opinion, “Frozen 2” was much better than its predecessor and I will be playing the soundtrack on repeat this Christmas season as I don’t anticipate any of these songs going down the same route as “Let it Go” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”

Now, the question everyone is asking themselves, ‘will I have any songs from this movie stuck in my head for months?’ and the answer is: only if you’re as obsessed with the soundtrack as I am.
