There are four senatorial candidates to vote for in the upcoming Student Government Association elections. Here are their platforms and hopes for their potential terms next year.

Treyah Gray: College of Business

Treyah Gray is a Marketing major who is running for the College of Business senate seat. She is involved in several different organizations on campus, including National Panhellenic Council, Sigma Gamma Rho Inc. and the Black Student Union.

Gray’s legislative platform is mainly about student engagement. She stated that this was one of the most pressing matters facing the Raj Soin College of Business.

“Students aren’t aware of the career fairs or resources available,” Gray explained. “I feel some solutions to that would be allowing for business organization collaboration and communication of these events.”

Gray hopes that students will see that with her candidacy, she is attempting to harbor a better community for the College of Business.

Michael Santana, Jr.: College of Business

Michael Santana, Jr. is a third-year Economics major who is also running for the College of Business senate seat. Santana, Jr. is a veteran and is also president of Omicron Delta Epsilon, which is the economic honors society on campus.

Santana, Jr.’s legislative platform mainly revolves around students receiving quality education.

“I’m not afraid to stand up to admin when I need to,” Santana, Jr. said. “I’m a blunt person, so this wouldn’t be a problem. I’m here to improve the quality of education for the students of Raj Soin College of Business.”

Santana, Jr. hopes that students will see his hardworking, can–do attitude with his candidacy. He wants for students to be able to approach him and bring ideas to the table for change.

Katie Thai: College of Liberal Arts

Katie Thai is a Political Science major who is running for the College of Liberal Arts senate seat. Currently, she is the sisterhood & public relations chair for Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority and the outreach chair for the Asian Student Association.

“I believe the most pressing issue facing the College of Liberal Arts is the lack of change after hearing student voices,” Thai stated.

She hopes to work with the College of Liberal Arts to repair communication with students and harbor a learning environment.

Thai hopes that students will see that she is a hardworking person who is willing to give a listening ear so she can advocate for the students of her college. She expresses that students can approach at any time to offer suggestions and air out grievances.

Jaylyn Albers: College of Science and Math

Jaylyn Albers is the sole candidate for the College of Science and Math. Albers is a first-year Biological Sciences / Pre-Dentistry major. Currently, she is the vice president of finance of Miracle Makers and is involved in the Pre-Health Society and the Pre-Dental Chapter.

Albers’s legislative platform is one that aims to build community amongst the College of Science and Math, particularly around the first-year students.

“With my candidacy, I hope to create a greater sense of belonging for those in the College of Science and Math to encourage students’ pursuit of their careers,” Albers said.

Albers hopes to foster camaraderie throughout her college by listening and communicating. She also encourages anyone to reach out to her personally if they have issues or need assistance.
