Soccer falls in 2OT

Wright State’s men’s soccer team fell 3-2 in double overtime to Detroit on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The Raiders (9-4-1, 4-3-1) were in the driver’s seat for most of the match and appeared to be on their way to victory, until a goal by Detroit’s Spiro Pliakos tied the match at 2-2 with just over one minute remaining.

It was Pliakos , again, who put the nail in the coffin for Wright State as his game-winning goal came with seven minutes left in the second overtime period.

Junior defender Kaique Fernandes scored his first goal of the season, on a header assisted by Sam DeRoy 14 minutes into the match. It was DeRoy’s third assist of the season.

Junior forward Eric Lynch’s goal at the 63rd minute gave Wright State the lead and Lynch his fifth goal of the season.

The Raiders outshot Detroit 23-19 and led in corner kicks 10-5.

Wright State has little time to rest as their second of a three-game home stand brings Bowling Green to Alumni Field Tuesday at 7 p.m.
