Obtain service hours while helping the Dayton community through these volunteer opportunities.

4 Paws for Ability

Volunteer at 4 Paws for Ability’s Xenia location or serve the non-profit through the Wright State University organization Raider Pups. Both of these opportunities involve the caring and training of future service dogs. Join hundreds of volunteers for flexible, regular or one-time volunteer opportunities.

4 Paws for Ability also offers group one-time volunteer opportunities.

“This program is perfect for scouts, company volunteer days, college/high school service projects, or church groups looking to volunteer in their community,” according to the 4 Paws official webpage.

To volunteer, visit the 4 Paws website or email Volunteer@4PawsForAbility.org

Homefull

Homefull addresses the needs of the unhoused, those facing food insecurity and unemployment. Homefull’s mission is to end homelessness by providing housing, services, advocacy and education and is most in need of assistance in beautification projects, client programming, mobile grocery and more.

In addition to these in-person volunteer opportunities, Homefull also encourages monetary donations or the donation of household items.

Register to volunteer with Homefull via VolunteerLocal.

Hannah’s Treasure Chest

Hannah’s Treasure Chest provides resources to children and families in need. Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas: general warehouse, inventory assistance, the blankets and bears program, special events and drive hosting.

Over 100 volunteers contribute 20,000 hours to the mission; these hours go towards the 3,796 children that the organization serves, according to the group’s official site.

To volunteer, visit the Hannah’s Treasure Chest website or email volunteer@hannahstreasurechest.org.

Project READ

Students can earn up to 25 service hours by hosting a book drive, collecting children’s and adults books, distributing books and more at Project READ. Project READ promotes literacy in the Dayton area by distributing high-quality, gently used books.

Project READ has over 14 donation bins located throughout the Miami Valley and collaborates with over 40 organizations to distribute books to children and adults alike.

Students can email projectreaddayton@gmail.com for information about volunteer opportunities.

Dayton Metro Library

Choose from over a dozen volunteer opportunities at the Dayton Metro Library. The library will organize flexible volunteer opportunities for a student’s busy schedule with positions ranging from a book sale helper to a library mascot.

To volunteer, fill out an application here or email volunteer@daytonmetrolibrary.org.

If unavailable to volunteer through the Dayton Metro Library, students can lend a hand to most libraries in the area, which are also looking for volunteers.

Students can find more opportunities through the WSU We Serve U volunteer portal.
