Softball records three consecutive shutouts

Softball won their seventh consecutive game and recorded their third consecutive shut-out as freshman Ally Russell pitched a complete game while the Raiders defeated Oakland 3-0 at the WSU Softball field on Saturday, April 23.

During game two of a three game series and game one of a double header that will be played shortly after, the Raiders extended their home record to 11-0 while they top the Horizon League with a 31-17 overall record and a 15-2 conference record.

The game was scoreless through the first four and a half innings until a two-out rally gave Wright State a lead in the bottom of the fifth.

With two outs and runners on first and second, Hanna Floyd drove in the Raiders first two runs as she hit a short fly ball to the pitcher that was dropped and rolled away.

Oakland then intentionally walked Becka Peterson to pitch to Macey Gunther and she made them pay with a RBI double to center field that gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead headed into the sixth.

The Golden Grizzlies threatened with two base runners in the sixth, but Russell got Mikayela Marciniak to fly out and end the inning.

Russell collected her ninth win and complete game of the season after closing out the game in the seventh despite two more base runners reaching.

Game two of the double-header will complete the three-game series at the WSU Softball field 30 minutes after the completion of game one.
