WSU volleyball names Travers Green, the former associate head coach at Mississippi State University, as the new head coach of the women’s volleyball team.

Green comes in as the eighth head coach in WSU Volleyball history and follows after Allie Matters, who recently took a new head coaching position at Illinois State University.

“This is an exciting time to join Wright State volleyball,” Green said, in a press release sent by Nick Phillips, assistant athletic director of communications. “I want to thank Bob Grant, Joylynn Brown, and President Edwards for their belief in me to lead this program.”

Green’s experience

Green brings a wealth of experience from nearly a decade of collegiate coaching success, including stints at Florida International University, the University of South Florida and SEC school Mississippi State.

Last fall, Green helped put together a 25 win season for the Mississippi State program with a 16-2 record in the SEC, including wins against ranked opponents Tennessee and Florida and a trip to the NCAA tournament.

“In every conversation with Travers, it was clear he has a passion for volleyball and a vast knowledge of the game,” Senior Associate Athletics Director Joylynn Brown said in the release. “He has proven he is certainly ready to run his own program.”

With his strong resume and recent successes behind him, Green looks ready to build his own program, and bring new success to WSU.

“I am excited to get started with a talented, gritty, competitive group of student-athletes. Together we will work on continuing to build the success of Wright State Volleyball. Go Raiders!”, Green said.
