“It’s a space for everyone to come in and be confident to promote yourself,” said Tasha’ra Maye, president of Delta Sigma Theta. “If you’re feeling like sexy, you can be sexy. Whatever it is that you’re feeling, it’s an open room for you to express that while getting your workout on.”

Held in Student Union Studio B on April 11, the dancing class started at 7 p.m. and ended at 9 p.m.

The only requirement was that you dress comfortably. So no, you don’t have to be a dance master. After all, cardio is always better when you are enjoying it.

“We want to stress that heels are recommended but not required. If you’re not comfortable, you don’t have to be in stiletto. You don’t have to come in trying to look cute,” said Maye.

The playlist for the event was filled with R&B, hip hop and a few classics. That includes artists like Madonna, Lady GaGa, Beyoncé and many more.

“We have an instructor, Shaunice Rawlins, who majored in dance and has her master’s in education,” Maye added.

Delta Sigma Theta promotes physical and mental health, and that was the inspiration for the event.

This is a new, fun way to get people active and before you know it, you’ll be drenched in sweat.

Since the event is only a few hours long, there was a quick ice-breaker to make people feel comfortable. When you are learning how to dance in heels, it goes without saying that comfort is a necessity.

Red Hot Heel Dancing is a part of the sorority’s Delta Week, Keeping Up with Epilson Rho.

Starting April 7, each day is occupied by a new event, and ends with volunteering at the Dayton Children’s Hospital on April 13.
