For those about to watch: Fall movie preview

Fall is on its way, and along with it will arrive a sizeable goodie bag of new films. Here are nine movies that will be hitting the theaters within the next couple of months, and as you will see, there will be a little something for everyone.

For those who like sharply-written, Oscar-worthy dramas, I recommend Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master.” The plot centers on a veteran (Joaquin Phoenix) who gets involved with a cult known as The Cause, but grows to mistrust its leader (Phillip Seymour Hoffman). I don’t blame him. I would do whatever Hoffman wanted me too as well, because he is just one of the coolest people.

For those who want to revisit a great Pixar film with some extra dimension, look no further than “Finding Nemo 3D.” Imagine how amazing the colorful cast and vast oceans will look in 3D. Truly, this is one movie that actually deserves the 3D treatment. Look for “The Master” and “Finding Nemo 3D” in theaters Sept. 14.

For those in the mood for visceral action with a brain to boot, Rian Johnson’s “Looper” will be your target.  A unique hitman (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who kills people sent back from the future faces a hard choice when his latest target is his future self (Bruce Willis). Look out,Inception!” Here comes your first true stylistic competitor!

For those looking for an uplifting tale, “Won’t Back Down” looks promising. This one involves two mothers (Viola Davis & Maggie Gyllenhaal) fighting to save an inner-city school. Cue the melodramatic speech set to swelling music! Find “Looper” and “Won’t Back Down” in theaters Sept. 28.

For the sake of not incurring Liam Neeson’s wrath, you should probably go see “Taken 2.”  The plot is Liam Neeson being awesome, because Liam Neeson is awesome. Plus, it’s directed by a man named Olivier Megaton, which must mean it will have a megaton of thrills. See it Oct. 5 at a theater near you.

For those who love seemingly impossible true stories, Ben Affleck’s “Argo” won’t disappoint. This is the very true story of the CIA’s very weird plan to free some American hostages during the Iranian revolution. If Ben Affleck keeps up with the good directing, I may be able to forgive him for “Daredevil” one day. Maybe.

For those interested in the old underdog tale, here comes “Here Comes the Boom.” In order to save his school, a teacher (Kevin James) attempts to become a MMA fighter. Wait, Paul Blart doing mixed-martial arts? Did I say underdog tale? I meant insane horror fantasy. Look for “Argo” and “Here Comes the Boom” in theaters Oct. 12.

For those with a taste for the grim and gritty, there is “Killing Them Softly,” in which an enforcer (Brad Pitt) tackles the case of a poker game heist. So within the space of around a month, we’re going to get thrillers starring Bruce Willis, Liam Neeson and Brad Pitt? You’re spoiling us, Movies! And it’s not even Christmas yet!  See “Killing Them Softly” in theaters Oct. 19.

Finally, for those with the time for multiple viewings to figure out what in the world is going on, the Wachowskis will bring us “Cloud Atlas.” What’s this one about, you ask? I have no idea. Something involving timelines and Tom Hanks. Find out what it’s all about Oct. 26.
