July 1 marked the beginning of the 2023 fiscal year. Wright State University’s $235 million dollar budget, approved at the June 16 board of trustees meeting, took effect.

The budget includes a $15 million use of reserves, however, the actual use of reserves will most likely be lower as recent University financial trends show savings rather than total use of reserves.

According to financial operating reports presented at the meeting, WSU ended FY 22 with $19.6 million in surplus funds.

Additionally, the largest part of the budget is compensation for university employees which makes up about 80% of the budget. According to Sommer Todd, director of fiscal services, this includes $10.6 million in salary for 218 vacant positions.
