NWS Confirms tornadoes in Montgomery, Greene and Clark counties

The National Weather Service confirmed at least eight tornadoes touched down across southern Ohio, including two in Montgomery, Greene and Clark counties, early morning on Wednesday, Feb. 28. 

An EF-1 tornado developed around Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and dispersed near Wright State University. Heavy damage was sustained to structures, homes and powerlines in the area and across the three counties.

Historic wildfires spread across Texas

According to the Associated Press, uncontrolled wildfires started on Monday, Feb. 26, in the Panhandle area near the Oklahoma and Texas border. 

The fire has merged with another, destroying cattle ranches and as many as 500 structures, including homes, making it the largest in state history. The fire has claimed at least two lives and injured two more. 

CDC relaxes COVID-19 guidelines

On March 1, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced that Americans who test positive for COVID-19 do not have to be isolated for five days before returning to normal activities, according to the Associated Press

The new guidelines emphasize the importance of staying home until symptoms are mild and being cautious by wearing a mask and keeping a distance from others while sick. 

These guideline changes come as hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 continue to decline.

Ship attacked by Houthi rebels sinks

On March 2, a ship hit by Yemen’s Houthi rebels sank in the Red Sea after taking on water for days, according to the Associated Press. The ship carried fertilizer and fuel, which could cause ecological damage. 

The vessel had been abandoned for 12 days before officially going down. This is the first vessel that has sunk in the ongoing conflict between the Houthi rebels and Israel.
