The Student Government Association held one of its weekly meetings this past Tuesday, March 12. It was a brief meeting in which most reports only consisted of general announcements.

Upcoming events

Eric Corbitt, SGA advisor and director of the Student Union and Campus Recreation, made some announcements regarding upcoming events mainly related to the eclipse, which will happen on April 8.

“Starting at 12:30, [there will be a] one-mile fun run, t-shirts for the first 50 that sign up,” Corbitt announced.

He also discussed the many other events that will be going on on campus around that time, including games, food trucks and several educational presentations.

“Expect a lot of people in the Dayton Area that weekend. 70% of the U.S. population is in and now a day’s drive from Dayton, and a lot of people show up for this,” Corbitt stated.

SGA President Stephanie Buettner made some announcements regarding the upcoming Raiderthon, the 12-hour dance marathon hosted by Miracle Makers, as well as several other fundraisers that have been going on on campus.

The Rowdy Bobblehead Award

Madisyn Crabtree, director of student affairs, passed the Rowdy Bobblehead Award to Deyavion Washington, director of student health and wellness.

“I wanted to give it to someone that I don’t see very often but is always busy doing something and working very hard,” Crabtree said before passing the award to Washington.

Washington was very thankful to receive the award.

“Thank you for this honor. It has really been a pleasure serving on SGA. This is actually my first student government experience. I’m very, very happy for the opportunity to engage with you all and end up bringing in this new position,” Washington said.

SGA will meet again on Tuesday, March 19, at 8 p.m. in the Student Union Atlantis A/B room.
